It has always seemed to me that the blood orange was created for the cocktail. It has that perfect tartness, bitterness, and gorgeous color that makes any accompanying liquor delicious.
This "recipe" couldn't be simpler. You will need:
- juice of 1 blood orange, plus half a lemon depending on preferred tartness
- 2 tbsp sugar
- 2 oz. bourbon or whiskey
- bitters (I used orange)
- lots of ice
As indicated in the pictures above, first add your sugar and bitters to the glass. Add the bundle of mint, and macerate this with the sugar until fragrant. Add your remaining ingredients in this order: ice, bourbon, juice, more ice. Stir well until sugar is all dissolved.
